Description

    Size: 30" x 30"
    Medium: Mixed Media
    FMV: $900.00

When I make art, I let my intuition lead throughout the painting at first. As it evolves I begin to rely on my intellect. And that goes back and forth for awhile, each taking a turn leading, a mixture of intuition and lessons learned of theory, design, colour and value. As the painting begins to resolve I begin to rely more and more on my intellect and experiences painting over the years. Finally the painting announces itself and then it’s again a mixture of feeling the painting intuitively and paying attention to the details of the painting. When I am in the state of intuitive creating I find that it is a place of profound joy. The busy world falls away, as I become one with the painting and the process. I grew up not understanding my feelings, and not understanding the world around me....and so intuitively letting loose in the beginning and middle stages of a painting, helps me get in touch with the hidden wisdom within, and create myself anew.

Gail was raised in Montreal and Winnipeg. She worked as a bacteriology technologist . She was always interested in art but thought that you had to be born with talent. On a whim , she and a friend took a watercolour course in White Rock in 1987. Art , in many aspects , has been an important part of her life for over 30 years in Vernon.
Hiking , camping and backpacking have also been a very big part of her life in the Okanagan.
This is an acrylic painting done on randomly torn rice paper over the canvass. It depicts the beauty, gratitude and peace that can be so amazing as the sun goes down.

        Medium: Acrylic Mixed Media
        FMV: $800.00

Art is learning to express myself in ways that I cannot otherwise do. It’s about taking risks, learning through growth, living with the fear of making mistakes, and connecting with people who understand.
The Japanese principle of satori describes my connection to art: satori is continually acquiring new points of view and perspectives through which we deal with life.

I am a Canadian abstract artist living in Vernon, British Columbia. I work primarily in acrylic and uses a variety of mixed media to enhance my work. I am a member of the Okanagan Artists Of Canada and the Federation of Canadian Artists.

I was raised in Calgary and had a fulfilling career in broadcast journalism and corporate communications in Alberta and Ontario. In 2011, a move to the beautiful Okanagan Valley and Predator Ridge changed my thinking about how I wanted to “interpret my world” and I shifted from writing to drawing and painting.

My work is recognized for strong expressive strokes, emotional energy and dramatic blends of colour. It can be found in national and international juried exhibitions and commercial galleries across North America, from New York to Vancouver.

When I paint, I am totally immersed in the moment and unaware of my surroundings. The only focus is my canvas where the marks that I make and the feelings they evoke take over. From beneath layers of texture a story begins to emerge, often unintended but arresting in its intensity. When the painting is finished, I am usually covered in paint and exhausted but exhilarated. I am very grateful for the ‘stories’ I am able to create and the pleasure they bring to others.

Even away from my studio I'm immersed in art as a Past President of the Federation of Canadian Artists (North Okanagan Chapter), a Director of the Arts Council North Okanagan and an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists (Toronto, ON), and NAP Contemporary Fine Arts (US).

This painting has been on display but unseen because of the epidemic. Seeing after it many months later I felt a strong desire to revisit the ideas, it had a complex stormy background and I wanted to move on. I whitewashed it several times and out came the brilliant fog. I felt that this is the mystical sea where anything can happen. I also feel that one can navigate these waters and the future is bright. Let’s go Into the Mystic.

Ps. Van Morrison has a song for this piece.

Lana was born at home in Regina in the middle of a cold winter's night. Growing up on the prairies imbued her with a love of spacious skies and room to roam. Now living in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada, Lana continues to seek and express that kind of space.
Working in mixed media, Lana's paintings are often large in scale, whether landscape, abstract, portrait, or inspired by her garden. Drawing inspiration from biking and hiking with friends, gardening with her husband, exploring the great wide open with family, and the interior of self, Lana strives to convey her sensibilities.

I seek to bring my personal experiences gathered from natural and urban environments into my studio to create an interpretation. Using primarily acrylic and spray paint on canvas, my work reflects my desire to explore the materiality of paint as well as evoke the attitude of the varied landscapes I am influenced by.

"Low Pitch" reflects my desire to seek tranquillity in this time of chaos. The repetitive nature of the leaf shape overlapping the blues and greens of nature creates a breathable space that the viewer can delve into and explore. This year with everything in the world seeming to be at a 'high-pitch', I wanted to lower the frequency, and bring some peace.

I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been born, and still live, in Vernon. My education in fine arts and graphic design served me well in my 30 year career in the promotional products industry, many years of which included graphic design and screen printing. Returning to my fine arts roots, I discovered soft pastels, which I am combining with my passion for animals to paint custom pet portraits. My works are a blend of lifelike detail with painterly strokes of colour and texture. Each painting is built with multiple layers of colour as I strive to capture the essence of each animal and provide a treasured, lasting memory.

I was born and grew up in England after WW2. In 1970 I emigrated to Canada and fell in love with this beautiful land of mountains, lakes, rivers and old forests. For me, coming from the UK, I found the space and sheer rawness of the landscape quite intoxicating and I longed to express it in my art. Usually, I paint expressionist representations but have recently branched into abstraction, which I must admit is a lot of fun. In fact, acrylic paints lend themselves to abstraction because they are plastic and vibrant.

I studied in the UK at CF Mott College, University of Liverpool, from 1966-1969. I studied painting and pottery.

My hope is that the love of God is expressed with joy in His creation.
